The HDL 375 silent chain is a special type of chain for heavy duties (HDL = Heavy Duty Link). It has a pitch of p=1/2" (12.70 mm) and a nominal width of bn=75 mm.

Unlike standard roller chains, which engage with the sprocket via rollers, silent chains have precise teeth on the underside of the link that mesh with the corresponding profile on the sprockets, ensuring precise torque transmission without slippage.

Compared to standard roller chains, HDL silent chains exhibit significantly higher strength and wear resistance, which leads to their use primarily in applications where operational reliability is required.

Due to their design, HDL chains have lower noise levels and are more compact, making them advantageous for use where equipment noise is undesirable, or for smaller installation spaces.

These chains most commonly find application in the automotive industry, e.g. as timing mechanisms, as well as in mechanical engineering on machine tools or presses, or even in power generation equipment.
