The most common type is a rolling bearing, which usually consists of an inner and outer ring, between which smooth metal balls or rollers (or possibly other elements) roll, housed in a so-called cage. The relevant load is transmitted through these rolling elements, thereby allowing free rotation or displacement of the corresponding machine parts.
